BF'ing moms, does your baby get congested during nursing?

Audrey is always a little congested, I'm assuming because she was a c-section baby combined with normal newborn congestion issues, but she seems to get more congested while she nurses. Does this happen to anyone else? Maybe it's just because she can only breathe through her nose while nursing?

At first Lauren would be really congested especially during BF and she used to sleep with her mouth a little open.

I think it's what you mentioned, she may still be clearing out stuff from birth.

Not much of an expert here but HTH.

DS sounds congested sometimes when he is nursing, but he seems to be breathing ok, so I don't know what it is. And I did not have a c-section, so who knows!

Yep! Riley's is because she has reflux... her pediatrician believes that instead of spitting everything up, it was backing up in to her nose!

Yes, my son is congested while nursing (as well as other times, you just notice it more when you slow down and nurse in my opinion). It was my understanding that babies can't really breathe through their mouths that early anyhow. Either way, you can use a few saline drops a few minutes before nursing to help them clear it out a little.

Ah, ok thanks. I figured it was probably fairly typical but I wonder about every little thing now. I'll try the saline drops!

It takes newborns a few weeks to clear out all of the fluids from being in the womb (even at 5 weeks Brianna has congested moments). Also newborns only breathe through their nose until they are 4+ months old so it makes sense she would be straining a little while nursing, as she would if she were bottlefed as well. Don't worry, its totally normal!

5 Steps to Simpler Bills
You’ve merged your lives, and possibly your accounts, but now you have all this extra stuff to manage, including more bills. But it doesn’t have to be so painful (except for the parting with your money part). Follow our tips to make this chore quick and efficient.

Step 1: Get organized.
No, it’s not impossible! In fact, our way is simple -- and makes life easier too.

How? Start by establishing a clear division of which spouse pays which bills, or by putting one of you in charge of all payments. When the next bill arrives, toss out the junky extra paper stuffed inside and file your statement in a specific place -- your organizer, a filing cabinet, anywhere with easy access. Then go to the calendar you check every day, write the bill’s name on its due date (or the date you need to mail the check by), and highlight it in pink. With your paydays in mind, select one or two days of each month (preferably the day you get paid) to write checks. This way, you can budget the rest of your month based on what’s left in the bank.

Step 2: Consolidate billing cycles.
It’s no fun to feel like everyone is demanding a piece of your paycheck all the time. But getting all your statements on a schedule that works for you will allow you to attack other projects.

How? Ask your credit card and utility companies if you can select a new due date. Depending on your financial situation, you might want all bills due at one time and be done with them or have them spaced out twice a month. After the first schedule is made, you will know what to expect every month.
